Inaugurated during the “Salone del Mobile 2014”, the new Kinnasand showroom is facing a courtyard of an historical building in the heart of Milan. This courtyard hosts others fine showrooms such as Kvadrat and Flos.

The project’s main goal is to work with the light in order to highlight the quality of the Kinnasand textiles. Toyo Ito designed a room which highlights the beauty of the fabrics and its textures with a precise material choice. In order to make the materials used to appear as floating elements in the space the architect studied the way to utilise reflective soft surfaces.
The users get in touch with the fabrics in an “heavenly” atmosphere. To transmit this feeling the walls are covered with translucent mirror glass panels, the floor is made of calcareous polished white stone elements and the false ceiling is composed of stainless steel elements polished and treated.
A particular LED system was integrated with the translucent mirror glass panels creating a delicate atmosphere in the showroom.

The materials used are hanging on two different stainless steel elements. Their height / length can be adjusted with a pulley automatic system. Few products are exposed according to the minimalist Toyo Ito’s concept of the space. A closet specifically designed for this showroom stores all the Kinnasand fabrics that are not exposed.

A clean and minimalist design characterised by the wooden pieces of furniture in solid wood is reminiscent of the scandinavian culture of the company.
