Private residential building – Recovery of attic
The small apartment building “Le Rondini” is part of the historical centre of Orta san Giulio, in the middle of the east shore of the lake, inside the medieval core of the town characterised by small pedestrian streets.
The project was strongly influenced by the local laws that do not permit any change in terms of morphology. Renewing the roof involved replacing all the old beams by glued-laminated wood elements. This choice, together with the new roof window which hosts the head of the bed, allows the internal height to be used in a more efficient way.
The whole apartment is characterised by the use of different colors on the walls in contrast with the continuity of the floor. The floor is composed of large larch elements from the entrance door to the loggia. On the top floor the floor is simply made of wooden planks that lie on the steel structure, visible from the livingroom.
